SYMS members please note: From September 2010, this website (www.syms.org.uk) will close. Information on SYMS and membership forms is now available from the MA website (www.m-a.org.uk) - scroll down the main webpage and look for the SYMS logo.

Please also note that SYMS regular problems and blog will not be available from September.  SYMS members will continue to receive both mathematical journals Mathematical Pie and SymmetryPlus.

What is SYMS?

TheSociety of Young Mathematicians is for all young people who enjoymathematics, whether they are in a junior or secondary school. Membersare part of a national organisation which motivates and encouragesyoung mathematicians.

SYMS Membership

Fullmembership is open to all young mathematicians and runs from 1stSeptember to the following 31st August. Members receive all 3 issues ofthe journals, whatever time of year they join. Membership is £9.99 peryear (£13.99 if outside the UK in Europe, £17.99 for airmail outside Europe).

Journals

Everyterm members receive the SYMS Newsletter – SymmetryPlus, which containsshort articles, news, things to do, calculator hints, book reviews,games, puzzles and competitions. Members also receive termly copies ofthe journal Mathematical Pie. Again, Mathematical Pie containsinteresting maths problems, puzzles and articles. SYMS encourages andsupports mathematical activities for young mathematicians of all ages.Adults are very welcome to join SYMS.

SYMS members will receive Symmetry Plus and Mathematical Pie delivered direct to their homes.

Discussion Boards

Alsoavailable to SYMS members are discussion boards on the SYMS website. Members can discuss the fortnightlyproblems posted on the SYMS website and join in discussions on othermatters related to mathematics.

SYMS members – Login Name and Password

Once you have joined SYMS, you can log in, using your Login Name, and using your SYMS Subscription Number as your password. For further information about this send an email to office@m-a.org.uk giving your name, address and your question.
